Newtalk新聞 日本媒體《NEWS Post Seven》18日引述自民黨內消息指出，首相高市早苗可能在12月的「X-DAY」低調參拜靖國神社，藉此鞏固保守派支持。雖然可能「突襲」參拜的時間點距今還有一個月，但因為高市日前的「台灣有事即日本有事」言論引發中日關係緊張。輿論認為，高市可能為鞏固「安倍繼承人」形象參拜靖國神社，以獲得黨內保守派支持，但可能觸發區域情勢緊張。 《NEWS Post Seven》指出，高市早苗從議員時代起，幾乎每年春秋兩祭與8月15日戰爭結束日都堅持參拜靖國神社，從未缺席，展現強硬保守立場。但自10月當選自民黨總裁、11月上任首相後，她刻意避開秋祭，僅獻祭品，以緩和外交壓力。報導指出，有保守派支持者施壓，要求高市兌實現「首相參拜」的競選承諾，傳出高市陣營思考在12月底國會閉會、外國耶誕節假期、亞洲鄰國進入年假模式，「干擾、限制最小」的情況下，「突襲」參拜靖國神社。而傳出最可能的日期就是高市的「政治導師」安倍晉三在2013年12月26日就任一周年參拜的同一天。 由於靖國神社供奉250萬戰亡者，包括14名二戰甲級戰犯，象徵日本軍國主義遺緒，長期是台中韓關注的焦點；紀錄上，日本首相以官方或私人身份參拜靖國神社包括：1975年：三木武夫（8月15日，首次於戰爭結束日）。1985年：中曾根康弘（春祭，首度獻祭品）。 2001-2006年：小泉純一郎（連續6年私人參拜）。 2013年：安倍晉三（12月26日，官方參拜）。自2013年安倍後，無在任首相再訪。但每次首相參拜，幾乎都引起區域外交風暴。例如：小泉純一郎連續6年以私人名義參拜，但其在任期間中日韓關係幾近凍結。2013年安倍參拜後，中國強烈譴責為「挑釁歷史傷疤」，時任外交部發言人秦剛稱其「踐踏受害國尊嚴」，召見日本大使，凍結高層對話，中日東海油氣開發談判中斷，掀地方反日示威浪潮，中日關係降至低谷，延宕中日韓三邊峰會一年，中國軍機擾台海及東海頻率激增，引發軍事對峙。當時的韓國總統朴槿惠形容為「令人震驚的挑釁」，韓外交通商部抵制日方外交邀約，導致韓日貿易額短期下滑10%，韓日聯合國教科文組織遺產爭端升級，並加劇慰安婦及強徵勞工議題爭議。中華民國外交部則表達「遺憾」，強調靖國供奉戰犯「不利歷史和解」，但未採取強硬措施，僅呼籲日本自省，以維持台日友好。而其中最特別的是連美國都公開批評安倍，美國駐日大使館罕見地以「U.S. Embassy Tokyo」名義發布正式聲明：「apan is a valued ally and friend.
