中高年男性に多い鼠径(そけい)ヘルニア 鼠径ヘルニアは、鼠径部といわれる太ももの付け根から腹膜(腹の内側を包む膜)や小腸、大腸の一部が飛び出し、瘤(こぶ)となって現れる病気で、脱腸とも呼ばれる。小児と成人の鼠径ヘルニアがあり、成人の場合は、加齢によって鼠径部の筋膜が弱くなった中高年男性がかかりやすい。 鼠径ヘルニアは、放っておいて自然に治ることは少ないため、根治させるには手術が必要になる。

睡眠時無呼吸症候群に対するCPAP療法 近年では、睡眠時無呼吸症候群(SAS)を中心として、睡眠障害に対する認識が一般的に非常に高まってきました。SASは107種類ある睡眠障害の1つで、「呼吸が10秒以上停止する無呼吸の状態が、夜間睡眠中に1時間あたり5回以上生じるもの」のことです。SASの臨床症状は多彩ですが、その2大症状はいびきと日中の耐え難い眠気です。いびきは寝ている間に起きるため、自覚症状がないまま進行してしまうケースも少なくありません。また、「眠気は事故のもと」ですが、私は「眠気は生活習慣病のもと」とも主張しています。
